Morphology
Euphorbia sp. is a plant an unknown or unidentified plants
of euphorbia family (euphorbiaceae). Based on physical observations in the
field, this type of plants consists of roots, stems, leaves and flowers. The
stem is serrated and has 2 up to 5 mm long thorns. The diameter of the stem has
5 up to 15 cm. The leaves are shiny green and single. This plant is almost the same as euphorbia milii; the difference is that euphorbia milii has a longer thorn.
According to Nuryati (2011), the euphorbiaceae family generally has a height of
2 up to 6 m, a woody base, many branches, and has toxic milky latex in certain
types.
Distribution
& Habitat
According to the
administrative records related the collection of the Taman Mexico of Purwodadi
Botanical Garden, euphorbia sp.is
widely spread in Java, precisely in East Java. Based on the type of family,
this plant is a succulent which is able to survive in hot, dry conditions or
drought.
Potential
It contains many natural compounds that are rich in benefits. According to Vasas et al. (2014) the
compound of natural latex has been contributed greatly in the pharmaceutical
field. In addition, this type
of plant contains alkaloids, tannins, and phenols that are effective for the
manufacture of medicines in the healing process.
Usability
It is believed by people in East Asia, India,
Africa, and South America to treat syphilis, asthma, cancer, stomach pain, skin
disease, and leprosy. In addition, this plant can also eradicate parasites in
the intestines (Cataluna & Rates: 2015).
